AWStats is short for Advanced Web Statistics. It is a free tool that generates advanced Web server access statistics in a graphical format. This Web Log Analyzer works as a CGI or from command line and shows you all possible informations your log contains, in few graphical web pages. It uses a partial information file to be able to process large log files, often and quickly.
To install Analog, connect to your Virtual Private Server via SSH or Telnet and issue this command:
% vinstall awstats
Make sure you examine the AWStats configuration file (~/usr/local/awstats-2.23q/cgi-bin/awstats.conf) to make sure the installation process correctly determined your LogFile location and HostAliases settings.
Once you are comfortable that AWStats has been correctly installed, feel free to generate statistics for your own site by accessing this URL:
http://YOUR-DOMAIN.NAME/cgi-awstats/awstats.pl
The CGI may take a few moments to finish, particularly if your log files are large in size. You can also generate statistics within a Telnet/SSH session this way.
% virtual /usr/local/awstats-2.23q/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -h YOUR-DOMAIN.NAME
